Rana's surgery went well and was not as extensive as expected. The doctor said her adenoids were indeed swollen/enlarged, so he thinks they were the root of her frequent infections. Her ears were full of wax, but her eardrums looked good and there was no sign of infection or fluid behind them, so he chose not to put in the tubes. Since Rana was having more trouble hearing a few weeks ago, I am kinda wondering if there was fluid there that found its way out already; however, since she has never complained about ear aches or had any sort of ear infection diagnosed, it is completely plausible that there never was a real need for the tubes. Rana was VERY groggy after the operation and cried on and off for quite a while, but thankfully has absolutely no recollection of any of it. Her hearing has improved and she was quite cooperative yesterday at her check-up with the ENT -- another sign that she has not been traumatized by the whole thing!
She has to stay home for an entire week to recover, so we have been resting, watching some of her favorite movies, reading books, playing games, doing puzzles, cooking some of her favorite meals, and playing with her new set of Playdoh that we gave her the morning of her procedure to help lift her spirits. The doctor indicated yesterday at the check-up that Rana will likely feel a little worse before she feels better, but she hasn't been experiencing much pain so far. We're thankful that the surgery went well and that Rana is recovering so well, and hoping that she won't have to battle as many colds and fevers in the coming months and years.
