After just two weeks in the States, Rana is speaking more English. She has started to combine more words to form more sentences. Sitting at the table after dinner the other night in Grand Rapids, for example, she said "Mama. Get down please. Rana play Elena." Some of her other favorite expressions are "I want to play." "There's another one [airplane, train, truck, toy, etc]." "Too hungry. I want to eat [insert food here]." "Help me, please, Mama." "Too heavy. Carry me!" It has been interesting to watch her switch languages again to talk to Najeeb in Arabic or our other friends in German. She doesn't miss a beat and really seems to be absorbing more in each of the languages every day. Rana and Najeeb will be travelling to Saudi Arabia to see his family later this week, which will certainly put her code switching to the test! ;)
